My name is Emma St Marthe, after 8 years working as a legal secretary for a large international law firm I decided to change career and set up as a childminder. The key drive for this change was my desire to provide a childcare option that exceeds expectations, meets the needs of busy working parents and most importantly provides the highest level of care for children.
My son attended a local nursery for some time and most of that time was marred with disappointment and great concern, particularly in terms of high staff turnover and unhealthy menus. I looked for an alternative but was unable to find one. So after searching for the ideal childcare solution I came to the conclusion that busy working parents in our area deserve a high quality flexible childcare option and I was in the position to provide it.
Before my career in the legal field I worked as a live-in nanny in America. Whilst living in America I studied at a local college and gained a Certificate in Early Childhood Education for 0-3 year olds.
Since becoming a Childminder I have gained the CACHE (Council for Awards in Children’s Care and Education) Level 3 Diploma in Home Based Childcare and have attended several training courses run by Kingston Early Years including – food hygiene, music in early years, heuristic play and treasure baskets.
I work alongside my husband, Elgar who is also a Registered Childminder. Elgar has recently joined the team and has previous experience of working with children as well as being a father to 3 himself. We both work with an assistant each to enable us to care for 6 children in the 2 properties. Our assistants are from various backgrounds who have gained their childcare experience either working at local nurseries, schools or nannying.
